By day the store fronts were all closed up and the market was mostly invisible. During operating hours at night however the market was extremely busy and fast moving. This was the most important east coast fish wholesaler, in fact it was possible that after being caught and trucked to Fulton Street, a fish could be purchased and resold in the very same town in which it was originally caught. The Fulton Street Fish Market operated in this location near the Brooklyn Bridge for 183 years until it was relocated to the Bronx in 2005.
