This man is selling fish. The boats are unloaded at midnight and buyers from restaurants walk around the various stalls buying food for the day. The market hours were midnight to 8 am each day. The Fulton Street Fish Market operated in this location near the Brooklyn Bridge for 183 years until it was relocated to the Bronx in 2005.
